The inspiration for this image came one day while I was driving in my car and the song Total Eclipse Of The Heart came on the radio. While listening to the music I began to think about what a total eclipse of the heart might look like if it were to be rendered as an image. I was wondering if I could take one of the images I captured during the 2017 total solar eclipse and digitally reshape it to create a heart-shaped eclipse. That was the beginning of the image. I then was thinking that, while beautiful, I wanted an image that represented more than just a heart that was in shadow and perhaps even eclipsed from giving and receiving love so I began to play with the addition of color on the inside of the heart, ... the idea being to represent the love that is deeply felt, that is almost always underneath the darkness, and that can therefore break through any momentary eclipse that can happen when two people are in relationship with one another. Finally, for this version of the image I added some stars in the sky such as those that can become visible during a total solar eclipse.

Perfect as a gift that that speaks of love always and in all ways, for better or worse, through good times and bad, and even when the heart is momentarily eclipsed.
